Chuu Holds Media Listening Event for New Single 'Only Cry in the Rain' – Reveals Emotional and New Musical Direction
On April 21, K-POP artist Chuu held a media listening event titled 'Private Listening Room' at Movieland in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, to celebrate the release of her new single, 'Only Cry in the Rain.' The event introduced the album with highlights from the new tracks, and Chuu shared her genuine emotions behind the album.
Chuu admitted, “Since it’s the day of the album release, I wasn’t able to eat well, so I tried not to eat, but I made sure to have a proper meal before the listening event to speak honestly with everyone.” She confessed that she was nervous yet excited. This marks her comeback after 10 months since the release of 'Strawberry Rush' last year. She commented, “Many people are saying this concept is unexpected, and I’m happy to hear that fans think it’s refreshing. I hope they find this concept as satisfying as I do, and I really want it to feel like a gift—a pleasant album that naturally blends into daily life.”
This album presents a new side of Chuu, moving away from her usual bright and positive image to explore a more emotional and multi-faceted concept. She explained, "The album revolves around the theme of emotions, with five songs that each tell a different story of emotion. I wanted to express the diverse emotions that make up who I am. I want to tell everyone that even though memories may fade, emotions leave their mark, and these are the emotions I’ve experienced."
The title track 'Only Cry in the Rain' is a song that Chuu deeply connected with. She shared, “This song is about how we all hide our emotions, and the lyrics reflect that feeling. It’s about taking those hidden emotions and revisiting them in solitude, especially on rainy days. I hope the youth, especially on rainy days when they’re alone, don’t shrink away but confidently express their feelings.”
Although the song is emotionally charged, Chuu emphasized that performance also plays a key role. She stated, “There are points in the song that I think fans will love, such as the part with the word ‘ppokk.’ It’s used as a way to help wipe away tears and to release emotions. This time, we have eight dancers, and the performance feels like watching a play.”
The album also presents Chuu’s new challenge: rap. In 'Kiss a Kitty,' she experiments with rap, something she has never done before. “I wanted to show a voice that I haven’t shown before. Half of the song is rap, and I hope everyone will enjoy it,” she said.
For the music video, Chuu took on acting herself. “Last year, I challenged myself with acting. On stage, I’m known for my bright and energetic personality, but acting allowed me to experience a different set of emotions. It was more thrilling, and I enjoyed it. I used emotions from other characters, even beyond what I’ve felt,” she explained. Chuu also expressed how much she enjoyed the process of filming, describing the experience as “exhilarating and new.”
Chuu’s growing journey as an artist is evident. She explained, “The reason I take on distinct concepts with each album is because I want to see how far I can go. While I can still show my familiar bright voice and tone, as a solo artist, I wanted to start something new. I wanted to show fans a new side of me, and I hope my music conveys the messages and emotions I want to share.” She added, “Since it’s been 10 months since my last release, I poured my feelings into this album.”
In conclusion, Chuu stated, “This album is centered around emotions, and I want to be known as an artist who sings about emotions. It’s difficult to express emotions in a way that listeners can feel them. While it’s hard to make everyone feel exactly the same way, I want to continue growing and create music that resonates with listeners and fans. That’s the greatest joy for me.”
Chuu’s new single 'Only Cry in the Rain' will be released at 6 PM on the same day.
