Kim Hye-ja and Son Suk-ku reunite as unlikely soulmates in JTBC’s ‘More Beautiful Than Heaven’
Veteran actress Kim Hye-ja and rising star Son Suk-ku will portray a married couple in JTBC’s upcoming weekend drama “More Beautiful Than Heaven,” which held its official online press conference on April 18.
Directed by Kim Seok-yoon, known for the acclaimed drama “The Light in Your Eyes,” the new series centers on Lee Hae-sook (Kim Hye-ja), who arrives in heaven in her 80s only to be reunited with her husband, Go Nak-jun (Son Suk-ku), in his 30s. The fantasy-romance explores love that transcends both time and reality.
At the event, Kim revealed that she had personally hoped Son would be cast as her on-screen husband. “While watching My Liberation Notes, I thought, ‘That actor is amazing—I hope he could be my husband in something,’” Kim shared. “And when it happened, it was just as I imagined. He’s younger than me, but he led the scenes beautifully.”
Son responded with humility, recalling the moment he accepted the role. “I was on the street trying to catch a taxi when the director called. I said yes without hesitation. Then I heard that Ms. Kim had personally chosen me, and I was truly honored,” he said.
Director Kim noted the natural chemistry between the pair. “When we met for dinner after casting, it felt like a matchmaking meeting,” he joked. “From the very first rehearsal, they looked like a real couple—there was no trace of an age gap.”
Son further reflected on the sincerity behind their performances. “Nak-jun’s every word and action is for Hae-sook. The character was very clear to me. And watching Ms. Kim rehearse with such devotion pushed me to give my all,” he said.
“More Beautiful Than Heaven” premieres on April 27 on JTBC, promising a moving tale of timeless love and the beauty of life beyond earthly limitations.
