Former K-pop Idol Cho Hye-won Signs Exclusive Contract with KeyEast, Shifts Focus to Acting
Cho Hye-won, a former member of the K-pop girl group Weeekly, has officially signed an exclusive contract with South Korean entertainment company KeyEast, signaling a new phase in her career as a full-time actress.
On April 16, KeyEast confirmed the signing and stated, "Cho Hye-won possesses diverse talents across music, acting, and variety shows, along with a strong passion for acting. We will provide our full support so she can grow as an actor."
Cho debuted in 2020 under the stage name "Joa" as part of Weeekly, where she served as the group’s main rapper and visual. The group garnered attention with its rookie success, winning six newcomer awards and achieving over 100 million YouTube views and 200 million Spotify streams with their 2021 hit After School.
Her acting debut came in 2022 with the web film 3.5th Period, where she played the role of Baek Ah-jin, a transfer student who discovers a mysterious watch that alters the flow of time. Since then, Cho has pursued formal training in acting, entering Sungkyunkwan University’s Department of Performing Arts in 2024.
She also showcased her versatility through her solo web variety show Oh-Hiryeo Joa, launched last year, further cementing her reputation as an all-round entertainer.
“I’m thrilled to begin this new journey with KeyEast, home to many senior actors I admire. I hope to take on various genres and show sides of myself the public hasn’t seen yet,” Cho said in a statement.
KeyEast currently manages leading Korean actors such as Cha Seung-won, Kim Hee-ae, and Kang Han-na, and is known for its strong presence in drama and entertainment production.
